I’m a licensed clinical psychologist (PsyD) based in Michigan, with a practice in downtown Grand Rapids. My work focuses primarily on adults and older teens, and I bring a generalist approach to a wide range of issues.
My background includes studies in music theory, theology, and English, followed by work as a software developer and a brief stint as a choral director. I eventually returned to graduate school to earn my doctorate in clinical psychology, completing a dissertation on Artificial Neural Networks in clinical research—long before AI became a household term.
Over the years, I’ve served as a full-time faculty member, worked in large group practices, co-owned a group practice, and supervised emerging therapists. I now focus on one-on-one work through my practice, with a growing emphasis on writing life stories.
If you're looking for my blog posts previously hosted here, they've been moved to davidhamilton.ink, which is now the primary collection of my writing.
Outside of clinical work, I enjoy writing, hiking, coding for fun, and spending time near the water with my wife. We have four grown children and are blessed with grandchildren.
